Are you an experienced Fire Sprinkler Designer looking to join a growing firm where you have the latitude to lead and shape a design team? A growing national fire & life safety firm based in the Annapolis Junction Maryland area is currently seeking a Design Manager to lead their Fire Sprinkler Design team. The ideal candidate will have an established track record of successfully managing the design of commercial sprinkler systems and helping other staff to meet their goals and objectives.

Job Summary for the Design Manager – Fire Sprinkler Systems

The primary responsibility for the Design Manager is to lead the Design Team as both a manager and designer, helping the team to define and meet team objectives. This person will also be responsible for working with the various team disciplines, helping to facilitate greater cross-collaboration among team members. 

Essential Functions of the Design Manager – Fire Sprinkler Systems

  • Manage the Design Team helping to mentor, train and develop team members
  • Serve as the Estimating and Design Departments inside technical expert
  • Work collaboratively with Project Managers and Operations Manager to ensure a seamless transition between design and implementation
  • Oversee and manage Design Department project schedules to ensure timelines are met
  • Design, survey, calculate and stock list projects when necessary to maintain project schedules
  • Promote strong working relations within and outside of the department
  • Facilitate a strong morale among the design team
  • Oversee recruitment and onboarding of additional team members as team grows

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities – Design Manager – Fire Sprinkler Systems

  • Strong knowledge of NFPA codes (NFPA 13, 14, 20, etc)
  • Ability to communicate accurately and clearly both orally and in writing
  • Strong construction math skills
  • Natural “can-do” solutions-oriented thinker
  • Superior organizational skills
  • Strong attention to detail with ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent problem solving and people skills

Training and Experience – Design Manager – Fire Sprinkler Systems

  • 5+ years of fire sprinkler design experience
  • NICET Level II or higher in Water Based Sprinkler Systems
  • Bachelor’s Degree a plus, but not required
  • HydroCAD experience preferred
